Decolonizing NVC Weekender

  • Flora Y Tierra 811 East 7th Street Long Beach, CA, 90813 United States (map)

This Intro to NVC weekender will provide a trauma-informed and decolonial dive into the practice of Non-Violent Communication. Using the language of feelings and needs, participants will be invited to explore what it means to decolonize our communication, increase self-empathy, and embrace accountability and transformation without shame. Can we deepen our own somatic awareness of where our deepest triggers and pain live? Can we use this awareness to communicate our needs with increased clarity? What are the ways we can divest from shame-and-blame language, to choose processes for accountability and healthy interdependence? This workshop will include a mix of instructional and experiential activities in the form of role-plays, journaling, and other interactive shares.

Workshop content:

  • Framework of trauma-informed Non-Violent Communication

  • Empathic and reflective listening skill building

  • Deepening somatic awareness and understanding our trauma histories

  • Role plays and practices to shift from shame and defensiveness into language that embraces accountability and care
